The Hoofer Youth Program offers quality on-the-water instruction with a focus on fun and learning. Courses in Sailing, Windsurfing, and Racing are open to youth ages 10-18 and range from beginner to advanced.
Programs are designed to teach outdoor recreation skills while encouraging youth to have fun and develop personally in the areas of communication, self-reliance, sportsmanship, and respect for others. Hoofers promotes a constant awareness of safety, emphasizes the importance of working together, and teaches students to adapt themselves to the forces of nature.
Covid-19 Impact on Programming
Thank you for your patience on an update regarding the Hoofer Youth Sailing Program. As things currently stand, UW-Madison has mandated that all youth programming for summer 2021 will be remote. For obvious reasons, sailing can’t be done virtually. However, a few youth programs have been granted exceptions to this mandate and will be permitted to host in-person youth programming under very specific restrictions. I am currently working to modify our typical youth program operations to align with those restrictions and hopefully be granted an exception to the remote-only policy. I do not know yet whether or not we will be able to host our youth program, but I do know that if it does occur, we will not be offering sessions until at least July. If the program is permitted to operate, I will release another update regarding sign-up information. Thank you as always for your continued interest in supporting the Hoofer Youth Sailing Program. It is my sincere hope that we will be able to offer sailing lessons to your children this summer, and I will keep you all in the loop as I learn more.
