At the Hoofer Sailing Club, we offer various ways to give back, not only to the club, but to the larger Madison community. Volunteering for the club can earn you your work deposit. Volunteering with the club to benefit the greater Madison area is a great way to meet fellow sailors as well as give back.
Here are some great ways to help out the club and work towards earning your work deposit:
- Special Events: Set up, take down, serving, and cooking are all easy ways to earn work hours.
- Kickoff publicity: Help chalk, put up posters, and distribute flyers.
- Winter keelboat work: Do simple repair work and cleaning on the boats.
- Lift-in and Lift-out: At the beginning and end of the season, help put in and take out the boats from Lake Mendoata.
- Pier-in and Pier-out: At the beginning and end of the seasons (and in case of inclement weather), help put in our take out the piers.
- Regattas: Cook food, help set up, or be a judge and see some great competitive racing.
- General summer work parties: There are numerous work parties throughout the season for general maintenance. If you volunteer for a long period, food is often provided!
- The shop: Help with more complex boat repairs, repair the fiberglass on the boats, and other types of skilled labor.
Information on how to volunteer with the Hoofer Sailing Club in the community is coming soon.
To sign up to volunteer for the club, check out the available work parties on the lessons website. If you have significant maintenance experience, you can also stop by the shop and see if you can help out.
